The Importance of Tires

How are tires measured and when should they be replaced?
Tires are measured in tread depths. A brand-new tire off the lot starts at 10/32”, from that point on we measure and review your tire tread depth using the Multi-Point Inspection tool. We recommend replacement at 3/32” and will start to caution you around 5/32” so you can start to budget for tires in the near future.
What's an alignment? And why do I need one?
Your vehicle's wheel alignment can be negatively affected by driving on rough or poorly maintained roads. Misalignment can lead to uneven tire wear and less than optimal handling and fuel economy. Here are some signs of tire misalignment:
- Your vehicle pulls to the left or right
- The steering wheel is off-center when you're driving in a straight line
- Squealing tires
- Uneven or rapid tire wear
- Watch how tire wear plays a large role in your ability to brake.
If you suspect your vehicle's wheels are misaligned, schedule an appointment. We can check the alignment with our precision equipment and adjust it if necessary.
Beaverton Toyota, like all Dealers, recommends you perform an alignment once every 12 months or at time of tire replacement (2 or 4 tires). Alignments are considered preventative care and pro-long the life of your tire. Ensuring you remain safe and get the most bang for your buck.

How often is replacement needed?
- Inspection of tires is recommended at each regular service visit.
Indicators replacement may be needed:
- Current tread level is at the wear indicators

- Age of the tires (DOT number)
