Change the Oil

You probably already know that you should be changing the oil in your car on a regular basis. For most Toyotas, you’re going to want to change the oil at either 5,000 miles with conventional oil or 10,000 miles when using synthetic oil. Regardless of your oil change interval, we recommended checking your oil level every six months and topping off as needed.

You should also cross-reference with your owner’s manual for the Toyota factory maintenance schedule for your particular vehicle.

For instance, if you’re operating a Toyota vehicle that meets the criteria for “Special Operating Conditions,” such as off-road driving, traveling on dirt roads, towing a trailer, or idling for extended periods, you should be replacing your engine oil every 5,000 miles regardless of what type of engine oil is used.

Maintain the Vehicle’s Tires

To get the maximum life out of your tires, be sure to monitor your tire pressure on a monthly basis. Though tire pressure recommendations vary based on vehicle, ideal tire pressure is typically in the range of 33 to 37. For more detailed specs on your particular vehicle, check your owner’s manual or the tire information placard that is typically found on the driver’s door inner edge.

Your tires should be rotated every 5,000 miles and fluid levels should also be checked and adjusted at this time. During these routine maintenance appointments, we will check your tires’ tread depth and make recommendations based on your vehicle’s needs.

Generally speaking, it’s time to replace your tires at the 3/32” mark. We start cautioning at 5/32”. You may need to replace your tires sooner based on your driving habits or the state laws where you reside. You may also need to get a particular type of tires when driving in certain weather conditions. For instance, many people switch to snow tires during the wintertime for better traction when driving on icy or snowy roads.

Check the Wheel Alignment

Your vehicle’s wheel alignment should be checked every six months during routine maintenance appointments and adjusted as needed. Though you may only need to have a wheel alignment done once every two to three years, you should still have it checked regularly in case your vehicle requires it sooner. There are certain signs to look out for to know whether your vehicle may be in need of a wheel alignment, such as extensive wear and tear on your tires or your steering wheel pulling to the right or left.

It’s suggested that you perform an alignment every time the tires are replaced. In fact, tire manufacturers often require an alignment to be performed for warranty purposes.

Take Advantage of ToyotaCare

We know what you may be thinking. All of this routine maintenance is adding up to a whole lot of dollar signs. But there’s no need to worry. Every new Toyota comes with a ToyotaCare maintenance plan at no cost to you. It’s a great program that ensures you save money and are stress-free during your first years of ownership. The plan includes normal factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Roadside maintenance is also included for the first two years of ownership.

The best part is that you don’t have to go to the dealership where you purchased the vehicle to take advantage of this program. You can simply take your vehicle to any participating dealership to have your no-cost maintenance performed.

You also have the option of extending ToyotaCare beyond the first two years of ownership with a Prepaid Maintenance Plan. Beaverton Toyota’s Prepaid Maintenance Plan ensures you will remain worry-free for up to 5 years of ownership.
